Aesthetic Dentistry
Puts A Smile On Your Face
Not everyone is born with
the potential for perfectly straight, brilliant white teeth and due
to accidents or neglect, others may also find themselves in need of
aesthetic dentistry services. Since George Washington allegedly sported
a set of wooden choppers, newer materials and designs have been implemented
to produce replacement teeth as well as alignment strategies to put
natural teeth into a proper alignment. Making sure the teeth are aligned
properly is not only for aesthetic dentistry as it can help the structure
of the face as well as the person's chewing ability.
In the early days of aesthetic dentistry braces were used to bring
teeth into proper alignment and straighten out a crooked smile. Large
gaps between the teeth that were unable to be closed using braces
were often fitted with a bridge to add to a missing tooth or to use
as a spacer to keep the adjacent teeth from growing closer together
by leaning towards each other.
Drilling and filling were common methods of aesthetic dentistry that
also served a useful purpose in preventing tooth decay from spreading
to other teeth as well as to prevent further decay of the affected
tooth. Metals were commonly used in filling materials, but with aesthetic
dentistry newer materials that more closely resemble tooth enamel
are now in use.
Not All Services Require Repeat Visits
Those with reasonably aligned teeth may find that whitening can return
their teeth to their white color with one trip to the dentist's office.
Typically, a dentist will offer cleaning services as part of an annual
examination in which a cleaning agent is used to remove any stains
and food particles that have become embedded in the surface of the
enamel. This type of aesthetic dentistry is one of the most recent
to provide at-home whitening agents to perform some of the functions
of the dentist.
Those with bridges are finding that using implants have a more natural
appearance and offer less chance of them falling out, enabling them
to use the teeth implanted during aesthetic dentistry surgery just
as they would natural teeth. With implants, the new tooth is part
of a device that is surgically implanted into the jaw bone to prevent
it from coming loose or moving during use.
Crowns, veneers and bonding are other aesthetic dentistry procedures
that can turn a person's smile into a white, even showing of teeth.
While some may say it for vanity, many who have undergone aesthetic
dentistry report a renewed self-confidence as well as a new better
outward appearance.
